Located in the heart of Schutterspark, this charming petting zoo is a great place for young children to meet animals and enjoy some outdoor fun. Kids can pet goats, sheep and other farm animals, and in some cases even help feed them. There is much more to do than just visit the animals. Children can explore a small maze, follow a gnome trail or take a ride on a scooter or toy tractor. It is the kind of place where families can easily spend a relaxed afternoon together.

After visiting the petting zoo, make sure to explore the rest of Schutterspark. Walk around the lake, play in the adventure forest or try the barefoot trail. There is plenty to keep the whole family entertained.

Hagerhof Petting Zoo in Venlo, North Limburg

Kinderboerderij Hagerhof is one of the largest and most popular petting zoos in Limburg. Alongside the usual farm animals, children can also meet donkeys, peacocks and even a few curious alpacas. The petting zoo regularly organizes fun family activities, including crafts, animal quizzes and opportunities to help care for the animals. This makes every visit a little different.

One of the highlights is the beautiful nature playground, complete with water pumps, mud kitchens and plenty of room to climb and explore. Parents can relax at the on-site restaurant while enjoying a cup of coffee and a slice of traditional Limburg pie.

Admission: Free (donations are welcome)
Address: Hagerlei 1, 5912 PP Venlo

Kasteelpark Born, South Limburg

While not a traditional petting zoo, Kasteelpark Born is one of the most enjoyable animal parks in Limburg for families. Set on the grounds of a historic castle estate, the park combines a petting zoo experience with a small zoo. Alongside goats and sheep, you’ll find a variety of more unusual animals, including owls, raccoons and wallabies. This makes it a great destination for children who love animals and enjoy discovering new species.

The park also features a large playground with a nearby terrace where parents can relax while the kids play. In the petting zoo area, children can get up close to several friendly farm animals.

Admission: €8 for adults, €6.50 for children (free for children under 2)
Address: Kasteelhof 1a, 6121 XK Born

Petting Zoo ‘t Hertenspoor in Echt, Central Limburg

Kinderboerderij ‘t Hertenspoor is a small and welcoming petting zoo that is perfect for families with younger children. One of the highlights is the goat enclosure, where children can walk among the goats and pet them up close. The petting zoo is also home to miniature donkeys, pot-bellied pigs, alpacas, deer, rabbits and a variety of chickens and birds.

In addition to the animals, there is a small playground and a picnic area where families can take a break and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. The relaxed atmosphere makes this one of our favorite petting zoos in Limburg for a low-key family outing.

Admission: Free (donations are welcome)
Address: Oranjestraat 67, 6101 HW Echt

Daalhoeve Care Farm in Maastricht, South Limburg

Zorgboerderij Daalhoeve is far more than a traditional petting zoo. Of course, you’ll find goats, sheep, chickens and miniature ponies, but there are also plenty of unexpected animals. Think alpacas, a wallaby, camels, macaws, capybaras and even meerkats.

Our daughters Nina and Puck especially loved the alpacas. We recommend picking up a bag of animal feed from the farm shop. It allows children to feed several of the animals, making the visit even more interactive. Once you’ve met all the animals, the playground is waiting. Our kids spent quite a bit of time here, while we enjoyed a break on the terrace.

The café is another reason to visit. It serves simple, affordable food and drinks, making it a great stop for a family outing. In fact, Daalhoeve is also one of our favorite family-friendly lunch spots in Limburg.

What makes this place even more special is the social mission behind it. The farm is lovingly maintained by volunteers and participants from community support programs, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout the site.

Admission: Free (donations are welcome)
Address: Alesiahof 40, 6215 SX Maastricht

Lamb Days: Cuddle Newborn Lambs in South Limburg

Every spring, several farms across Limburg open their barn doors to visitors during the annual Lamb Days. It is a wonderful opportunity for children to see newborn lambs up close and, in some cases, even cuddle them. Many farms organize additional activities such as guided tours, scavenger hunts and bottle-feeding sessions, making it a memorable day out for families.
