Looking for a unique family hotel in Gothenburg? Then you’ve probably already come across Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel. During our Sweden road trip in July 2025, we spent four nights here with our daughters, who were almost 3 and 6 years old at the time. Looking back, we can honestly say it’s one of the best family hotels we’ve ever stayed at.

Why We Chose Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel
When planning our Sweden road trip, we had actually already booked a different hotel in Gothenburg: Scandic Opalen. It looked like a great option, was in a convenient location and seemed perfect for spending a few nights in the city.
A few months later, we came across Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel by chance. After looking at just a few photos, we were sold. Yes, it was more expensive than our original booking, but the giant slide, the carousel, the spacious family rooms and the overall design convinced us it would be worth it. We decided to change our reservation and simply save money elsewhere during our trip.
Looking back, it turned out to be one of the best decisions we made during our vacation. The hotel looked amazing in the photos, but somehow it was even better in real life.
Not Just a Hotel for Liseberg, but for Exploring Gothenburg
Of course, being right next to Liseberg Amusement Park is a huge advantage. However, that wasn’t the main reason we chose to stay here.
Even if the hotel hadn’t been connected to Liseberg, we probably still would have booked it. The unique design, spacious family rooms and countless family-friendly touches immediately caught our attention. Looking back, it was an excellent choice, and throughout this review we’ll explain exactly why.

Are the Reviews of Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel Accurate?
Before booking, we had already read plenty of positive reviews. Naturally, our expectations were high, especially since Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel is consistently rated as one of the best family hotels in Gothenburg.
Fortunately, it lived up to the hype. From the moment we stepped into the lobby, it was clear this wasn’t just another hotel. The atmosphere, the themed design and the attention to families immediately stood out.
Does that mean everything was perfect? Not quite. Breakfast could get quite busy during peak hours, and we would have loved to see a few extra perks for hotel guests, such as early entry to Liseberg. Still, these are only minor drawbacks that hardly affected our overall experience.
So what made us enjoy our stay so much? Let’s take a closer look.

Why Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel Is More Than Just a Place to Stay
Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel already looks impressive in photos, but in real life we thought it was even better. It didn’t take long for us to realize that this is much more than a hotel next to an amusement park. In many ways, it feels like an attraction in its own right, and that’s exactly what makes it so special.
A Hotel That Feels Like an Attraction
From the moment we stepped into the lobby, we had a genuine wow moment. Everywhere you look, there are unique details to discover. The elegant steampunk-inspired design, the warm colors, the beautiful lighting and, of course, the giant slide that stretches from the first floor down into the lobby immediately catch your attention.
Before we had even seen our room, Nina and Puck had already spotted the slide. After a few rides, they had absolutely no interest in going upstairs. We eventually convinced them by promising we could come back later, which, of course, we did.
Another highlight is the carousel in the conservatory next to the breakfast area. Children can ride it free of charge and during breakfast our daughters often stood patiently waiting for it to start spinning again. Moments like these make it clear that this is anything but an ordinary hotel.

Every Detail Is Designed with Children in Mind
The best part is that the fun doesn’t stop with the slide and the carousel. Throughout our stay, our daughters discovered something new almost every day.
During the summer holidays, Liseberg’s famous rabbit mascots visit the hotel several times a day. Puck especially looked forward to seeing them. The moment the rabbits appeared, her face lit up and she immediately wanted to give them a hug and pose for another photo, every single day.
The hotel also has a free movie theater with children’s films, a large playroom filled with toys and a souvenir shop where you can buy all kinds of Liseberg merchandise. Our daughters went home with the famous rabbit ears, which they happily wore for the rest of our Sweden trip and even back home during Easter.
Another thing we really appreciated is that almost everything is included in your stay. The slide, carousel, playroom and movie theater are all free to use, making the hotel an even better choice for families.
Not Your Typical Theme Park Hotel
This may sound a little strange, but to us, Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel didn’t really feel like a typical theme park hotel.
When we stay at hotels at Disneyland Paris or the Efteling, we usually try to spend as much time as possible in the parks. The hotel is mostly a comfortable place to sleep.
Here, it was completely different. We happily took our time in the mornings, the girls wanted just one more ride down the slide and we didn’t mind heading back to the hotel a little earlier in the afternoon. The hotel genuinely felt like part of our vacation and not just a place to stay after a day at Liseberg.
We think that’s partly because it’s located right in the heart of Gothenburg. You’re not just visiting a theme park, you’re combining a city break with a truly special family hotel. As a result, you actually get to enjoy all the hotel’s facilities much more than you would at most theme park resorts.
Great for Parents Too
Although everything is clearly designed with families in mind, this certainly isn’t a hotel that’s only fun for children.
We absolutely loved the stylish interior. Everywhere you look, you’ll find beautiful decorative details and the steampunk-inspired theme continues throughout the entire hotel, even in the elevators and hallways.
One spot we definitely recommend is the sky bar and restaurant on the top floor. The views over Liseberg and Gothenburg alone make it worth a visit. We only stopped by for a drink and to enjoy the scenery, but looking back, we wish we had also booked dinner there because the dishes coming out of the kitchen looked fantastic.
It’s this combination of a magical world for children and a stylish setting that parents can appreciate too that makes Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel feel so unique.

Our Experience Staying in a Family Room at Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel
A unique hotel is great, but at the end of the day you also want a comfortable place to sleep. We spent four nights in a standard family room at Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel and absolutely loved it. The room was surprisingly spacious, cleverly designed and had everything we needed as a family with two young children.
Cleverly Designed for Families
The layout of the room worked incredibly well for us. Instead of placing four beds in one space, the children had their own sleeping area with bunk beds. Thanks to the curtains, they could completely close off their little corner, making it feel almost like they had their own bedroom.
As parents, we really appreciated this too. Once Nina and Puck were asleep, we still had a bit of time to ourselves. We could plan the next day, relax together and enjoy a little bit of well-deserved me-time.
More Spacious Than Expected
We stayed here with four people and honestly expected the room to feel a bit cramped. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case at all.
There was more than enough space for our luggage and we never felt like we were living on top of each other. In fact, the room felt larger than we had expected, which isn’t something you can often say about a standard family room in a city hotel.
A Quiet Night’s Sleep Despite the Location
Even though the hotel is located right next to Liseberg and a busy road, we slept incredibly well. We didn’t hear any noise from the amusement park or the traffic outside.
To make things even better, we visited during a heatwave in Gothenburg. Fortunately, the air conditioning worked perfectly and kept the room wonderfully cool throughout our stay.
Bathroom and Practical Features
The bathroom was also larger than we had expected and the spacious walk-in shower was more than enough for our family.
There was even a double sink, which turned out to be surprisingly convenient when travelling with four people. Everything was spotless and well maintained, exactly what you would expect from a hotel in this price range.
Also Suitable for Larger Families
Another clever detail is that the lower bunk can be pulled out, allowing the standard family room to accommodate up to five guests.
Travelling with a larger family or looking for something more luxurious? Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel also offers several other room types. For us, however, the standard family room was perfect. If we ever return to Gothenburg, we wouldn’t hesitate to book this room again.

The Family Rooms Were More Spacious Than We Expected
Thanks to the separate sleeping area with curtains, both we and the girls had our own little space. Curious which rooms are still available?

Breakfast at Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel
For us, a good breakfast is an important part of any hotel stay. During our four nights at Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel, we enjoyed a leisurely breakfast every morning. Even though it could get quite busy, we still look back on the breakfast experience very fondly.
One of the Best Breakfasts of Our Sweden Road Trip
During our road trip through Sweden, we stayed in several different accommodations. Even so, the breakfast at Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel was our favorite.
Not only because of the wide selection, but also because everything looked fresh and was constantly replenished. Whether you were in the mood for a full English breakfast, yogurt with fruit or simply a fresh bread roll, there was something for everyone.
Plenty of Choice for the Whole Family
The breakfast buffet offered an impressive variety of options. There were fresh bread rolls, croissants, crispbread, several Swedish cheeses, yogurt, quark, fresh fruit, vegetables, pancakes, bacon, eggs and much more.
We also liked that the buffet was set up identically on both sides. This helped spread out the guests and meant that, despite the crowds, we rarely had to wait long.
Breakfast Next to a Carousel
Perhaps our favorite part of breakfast was the conservatory next to the lobby. This is where you’ll find the hotel’s famous carousel and it quickly became our favorite place to sit.
Not only was it a little quieter than the main breakfast room, but it also had a lovely atmosphere and allowed the girls to keep an eye on the carousel. As soon as it started turning, Nina and Puck were already lining up for another ride.
It made breakfast feel just that little bit more special every single morning.

The Only Downside
The only real downside for us was how busy breakfast could get. Around 8:00 a.m. in particular, it became clear just how popular this hotel is and the atmosphere could be quite lively.
That said, everything was very well organized. There always seemed to be plenty of staff clearing tables and continuously restocking the buffet. So despite the number of guests, it never felt chaotic.
Overall, we’d give the breakfast a solid 8 out of 10. It may not have been the very best hotel breakfast we’ve ever had, but it was definitely the best of our Sweden road trip and a wonderful way to start each day in Gothenburg.
The Location: Exploring Liseberg and Gothenburg
A beautiful hotel is great, but in the end, you also want a practical location. That’s exactly where Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel shines. During our stay, we didn’t use our car once and explored Gothenburg almost entirely on foot and by tram.
Perfect for Visiting Liseberg
As the name suggests, Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel is located right next to Liseberg Amusement Park. In fact, it’s so close that you could almost roll there.
Guests staying at the hotel also receive free admission to Liseberg from 6:00 p.m. on the day of arrival. Just keep in mind that the rides are not included. For those, you’ll still need to purchase a Ride Pass or individual ride tickets.
There’s also a Coop supermarket directly across the street from the hotel. It’s the perfect place to pick up drinks, snacks or a simple lunch before heading to Liseberg, and it can save you quite a bit of money.

Universeum Is Within Walking Distance
Universeum is also perfectly located in relation to the hotel. In less than ten minutes, you can walk to this interactive science museum, which we think is an absolute must-visit when spending a few days in Gothenburg with kids.
Because both Liseberg and Universeum are so close, it’s easy to return to the hotel during the day if needed. That’s especially convenient when travelling with younger children.

Exploring Gothenburg by Tram
Although it’s perfectly possible to walk into the city center from the hotel, we mostly used the tram. The stop is literally right outside the hotel and makes getting around Gothenburg quick and easy.
At reception, we were advised to download the Västtrafik To Go app. It allows you to buy day passes or tickets for a specific period of time. Children up to and including the age of seven travel for free with an adult and older children receive discounted fares.
For us, the tram was by far the easiest way to explore the city.

A Great Choice Even Without Visiting Liseberg
Even if you don’t plan to visit Liseberg, we still think this is an excellent base for exploring Gothenburg. Thanks to the convenient tram connections, central location and spacious family rooms, everything about your stay feels effortless while you discover the city.

How Much Does It Cost to Stay at Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel?
Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel certainly isn’t a budget hotel. That said, we felt the price was completely justified. Hotels in Gothenburg tend to be more expensive than you might expect and for the experience you get here, we wouldn’t hesitate to book it again.
How Much Does a Stay Cost?
We stayed for four nights in July 2025 in a standard family room with two adults and two children. Breakfast was included in our rate. In total, we paid €993 for our stay, which works out to about €248 per night. It’s definitely not cheap, but looking back, we felt it was worth every euro.
Because the hotel became such a memorable part of our city break, we never once felt like we had overpaid.
We booked well in advance. Curious how much a stay costs for your travel dates?

Keep Parking Costs in Mind
If you’re travelling to Gothenburg by car, make sure to factor in parking costs. During our stay, we parked in the garage next to the hotel and paid a total of €152.60 for 3 days and 19 hours.
To be honest, we found that quite expensive. The parking spaces are also fairly narrow. When we returned to our car, we discovered a dent in the door. Fortunately, the person responsible had left a note and everything was resolved without any issues.
If you’re driving to Gothenburg, it’s definitely worth including these extra costs in your travel budget.
Looking for a More Budget-Friendly Alternative?
Is Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel just above your budget? Liseberg has another accommodation that’s worth considering. Just keep in mind that you’ll not only miss out on some of the unique hotel experience, but the location is also slightly less convenient for exploring both Liseberg and Gothenburg’s city center. That said, you’ll still find a bit of that special Liseberg atmosphere here.

After spending four nights at Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel, we can only come to one conclusion: we’re incredibly happy that we changed our original hotel booking. What Did Our Children Think?
Ask our daughters about the best hotel they’ve ever stayed in and they’ll immediately answer: “the hotel with the giant slide.” Ask them what they remember most from our Sweden road trip and Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel almost always comes up.
The giant slide, the carousel, Liseberg’s rabbit mascots and all the little details made such an impression that they still talk about this hotel more than a year later. Nina still brings it up regularly on her own, while Puck absolutely adored the rabbits and would light up every time they appeared.
That says it all, really. There aren’t many hotels that leave such a lasting impression on children.
What Did We Think as Parents?
For us, Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel was special too. Not just because it’s beautifully designed, but because it feels like so much more than a place to sleep.
That may partly be because the hotel is located right in the middle of Gothenburg. At other theme park hotels, such as those at Disneyland Paris or the Efteling, we usually try to make the most of our time in the parks. We leave early, return late and ultimately spend far too little time at the hotel, no matter how nice it is.
At Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel, things felt completely different. One day you’re visiting Liseberg, the next you’re exploring Gothenburg or spending time at Universeum. Because of that, we found ourselves returning to the hotel much more often and actually making use of everything it has to offer. We regularly took our time in the mornings, the girls went down the slide a few more times and we didn’t mind heading back to the hotel a little earlier in the afternoon.
Of course, there are a few things that could be better. Breakfast can get quite busy during the high season, parking is expensive and we would have loved a few extra perks for hotel guests, such as early entry to Liseberg.
At the same time, these are only minor drawbacks that hardly affect our overall opinion. The unique atmosphere, the cleverly designed family rooms, the excellent location and all the facilities for children make this a hotel we would happily book again.

Our Final Verdict on Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel
As mentioned before, we give Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel a 9 out of 10. Not because it’s perfect, because no hotel truly is, but because it’s one of the few places where the hotel experience itself is just as memorable as the destination.
In fact, if you asked a child to draw their dream hotel, we think it would look surprisingly similar to Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel.
Would we stay here again on another trip to Gothenburg? Without a doubt.

Grand Curiosa Isn’t Cheap
Even so, we would happily book it again. Hotels in Gothenburg are generally quite expensive and this is one experience we genuinely wouldn’t have wanted to miss.
