Florida Road Trip Itinerary: Our Ultimate Route Through the Sunshine State
In October and November 2023, we embarked on an unforgettable Florida road trip with our kids. In this section, you’ll find all our articles about this adventure, including our favorite Florida travel tips, the best stops along the way, our 3-week itinerary and plenty of inspiration for planning your own trip.
We started in Miami, a city we had seen countless times in movies and one that had been high on our bucket list for years. Strolling along Ocean Drive, soaking up the atmosphere of Miami Beach and finally experiencing it for ourselves was everything we had hoped for, and more.
From there, we continued to the Florida Keys. We immediately fell in love with the laid-back island vibe. We explored Key West by golf cart, discovered beautiful beaches and enjoyed some of the most scenic drives of the trip. After the Keys, we headed back to the mainland to visit the Everglades, where we took an unforgettable airboat tour and spotted plenty of alligators in the wild.
Our route then took us to Florida’s Gulf Coast, where we stayed in places like Siesta Key and Sarasota. With their white-sand beaches, relaxed atmosphere and family-friendly attractions, these became some of our favorite stops. We were also pleasantly surprised by Mount Dora, a charming small town that felt like something straight out of a classic American movie. From there, we explored several natural springs, swimming in crystal-clear water and enjoying Florida’s beautiful nature.
The highlight for our kids was Orlando. Spending several days at Disney World, including trick-or-treating during Halloween, felt like a dream come true. After a short trip to the Bahamas, we returned to Miami to end our journey, looking back on one of the best family vacations we’ve ever had.
