What Is Gardaland?

Gardaland is the largest theme park in Italy and is located on the eastern shore of Lake Garda. The park’s mascot is a cheerful green dragon named Prezzemolo, who you’ll spot throughout the park.

With more than 40 attractions, there’s something for everyone. You’ll find thrilling roller coasters for adrenaline seekers, themed adventures for families and magical worlds designed especially for younger children. Gardaland continues to evolve, regularly adding new attractions and experiences.

We visited Gardaland during the Halloween season, when the entire park was decorated with pumpkins, themed decorations and special entertainment. The festive atmosphere made our visit even more memorable and added an extra layer of fun to the experience.

The Best Rides at Gardaland

One of the things we liked most about Gardaland was the variety of attractions. While our daughters spent plenty of time exploring Peppa Pig Land and Fantasy Kingdom, older children and adults could enjoy some of the park’s bigger rides elsewhere.

For Young Children (and Their Parents!)

With a toddler and a young school-aged child, Peppa Pig Land and Fantasy Kingdom were easily our favorite areas of the park. Both girls could enjoy almost every attraction here, which meant we didn’t constantly have to check height restrictions or wonder whether a ride would be suitable. Peppa Pig Land was especially popular with our youngest daughter. The area is colorful, easy to navigate and filled with attractions designed specifically for younger children.

In Peppa Pig Land, you can:

  • Take a ride on Peppa Pig Balloon Ride.
  • Travel aboard Grandpa Pig’s Little Train.
  • Sail around Pirate Island.
  • Play in the colorful playground.

Fantasy Kingdom is another great area for families with younger children. Here you’ll find:

  • Doremifarm, a gentle tractor ride past animals and farm-themed scenes.
  • Prezzemolo’s Tree House, where children can explore the home of Gardaland’s mascot.
  • Flying Island and Funny Express, two popular family attractions.
  • A playground where kids can burn off some extra energy between rides.

Another area that looks especially appealing for younger families is Prezzemolo Land. This playground features a castle, slides and several water play areas. It was closed during our autumn visit, but on a warm spring or summer day we can easily imagine this becoming one of the busiest spots in the park.

Dark Rides for the Whole Family

We rarely skip a dark ride when visiting a theme park. Gardaland doesn’t have a huge collection of them, but the ones it does have are worth experiencing.

  • Animal Treasure Island (New for 2025)
Unfortunately, we couldn’t experience this attraction ourselves because it hadn’t opened yet during our visit. This new dark ride replaces the classic pirate attraction I Corsari and, based on the first images and reviews, looks like a promising addition for families.
  • Jumanji: The Adventure
In this dark ride, you’ll travel through the world of Jumanji in an off-road vehicle. It’s well themed and fun to experience, although we personally found it a little less impressive than we had expected. If you’re a fan of the movies, it’s definitely worth a ride.
  • Magic House
Everything spins… except you. Or does it? This classic madhouse attraction creates a surprisingly convincing illusion that leaves you completely disoriented. The concept is similar to Villa Volta at the Efteling. It’s a simpler version, but still a fun experience and a nice break from the larger rides.

For Thrill Seekers, Young and Old

Gardaland also offers plenty of attractions for older children, teenagers and adults. We certainly didn’t manage to experience everything, but these are some of the park’s most popular rides.

  • Mammut
Mammut was probably our favorite attraction of the day. This family roller coaster is exciting enough to feel like a real coaster experience, without being too intense for younger children. Nina immediately wanted to ride it again.
  • Fuga da Atlantide
We also loved Fuga da Atlantide. This water coaster combines several impressive drops with beautiful theming inspired by the lost city of Atlantis. Just be prepared to get very wet.
  • Raptor
One of Gardaland’s most famous roller coasters. In this wing coaster, the seats are positioned on either side of the track, creating the sensation of flying through the park.
  • Oblivion: The Black Hole
This coaster starts with a 42-meter (138-foot) vertical drop and is one of the most spectacular rides in the park.
  • Shaman
A classic roller coaster featuring double loops and sharp turns. It may not be the newest ride in Gardaland, but it’s still a thrilling experience for coaster fans.
  • Wolf Legend
This 25-meter (82-foot) drop tower makes riders feel as if they’re falling into the jaws of a giant wolf. Fast, intense and packed with adrenaline.

Shows and Meet-and-Greets at Gardaland

Between rides, you’ll also find several shows and character meet-and-greets throughout the park. Especially for families with younger children, these moments offer a nice break from standing in line or rushing from attraction to attraction.

For our daughters, meeting Peppa Pig was one of the highlights of the day. The moment she appeared, all the rides were instantly forgotten. You’ll also regularly spot Gardaland’s friendly dragon mascot, Prezzemolo, wandering through the park.

Gardaland hosts various live shows throughout the day, and the program changes regularly depending on the season. We recommend checking the official app or daily schedule when you arrive so you don’t miss anything that might interest your family.

Food and Drinks

You’ll find plenty of restaurants, snack bars and kiosks throughout the park. From pizza and pasta to burgers, ice cream and quick snacks, there are enough options to keep everyone happy during the day.

Prefer bringing your own food? That’s allowed too. Visitors can bring their own snacks and drinks into Gardaland, which is especially convenient when visiting with younger children.

Gardaland, SEA LIFE Aquarium or LEGOLAND Water Park?

Most visitors come to Lake Garda for Gardaland itself, but right next to the theme park you’ll also find Gardaland SEA LIFE Aquarium and LEGOLAND® Water Park. If you have more than one day available or are spending a longer holiday around Lake Garda, both attractions are worth considering.

Gardaland SEA LIFE Aquarium

SEA LIFE Aquarium is a relatively small aquarium featuring sharks, rays, tropical fish and other marine life. Don’t expect a full-day experience like some of Europe’s larger aquariums. Instead, think of it as a fun addition to your Gardaland visit. The highlight is the underwater tunnel, where fish and sharks swim above your head. Unsurprisingly, this was one of the most popular areas for children.

You can visit SEA LIFE Aquarium on its own or purchase a combination ticket with Gardaland. If you have a few spare hours during your Lake Garda holiday, it’s a nice extra activity for families.

LEGOLAND® Water Park

Visiting Lake Garda during spring or summer? Then LEGOLAND® Water Park is probably the most interesting addition to Gardaland. The water park is designed specifically for families with children and offers a welcome change of pace after a day filled with roller coasters and attractions.

A Lazy River, interactive splash areas and LEGO® Creation Island, where children can build and test their own boats, are just some of the highlights. On a hot summer day, we can easily imagine spending several hours here as a family.

Good to know: LEGOLAND® Water Park is located inside the Gardaland Resort and can only be visited with a valid Gardaland admission ticket and water park access. If you’re visiting Lake Garda in spring or summer, we’d definitely consider adding it to your itinerary.

Short on Time? There are also combination tickets available that allow you to visit both Gardaland and LEGOLAND® Water Park on the same day, making it easier to experience both attractions during a shorter stay.

Where to Stay Near Gardaland

Are you visiting Northern Italy with children and want to turn your Gardaland visit into a complete family getaway? Then the three official Gardaland hotels are worth considering. Our Experience at Gardaland

We visited Gardaland during the autumn holiday, right in the middle of the park’s Halloween season. Everywhere we looked, there were pumpkins, themed decorations and special entertainment. After seeing photos of Gardaland Magic Halloween beforehand, a visit quickly became one of the highlights we wanted to include in our trip.

Our children especially loved Peppa Pig Land and Fantasy Kingdom. The combination of rides, playgrounds and character meet-and-greets kept them entertained for hours. We also appreciated that Gardaland offers much more than attractions for young children. There are plenty of rides for older kids, teenagers and adults as well. Our personal favorite was Mammut. It offered just the right balance between fun and excitement, and Nina would have happily ridden it again straight away. Fuga da Atlantide came in a close second, although we ended up much wetter than expected.

What we liked most about Gardaland is that it doesn’t feel like a park aimed exclusively at young children or solely at roller coaster enthusiasts. Instead, it strikes a nice balance between the two, making it a great choice for families. While the girls were enjoying Peppa Pig Land, we could later head off and experience some of the bigger attractions ourselves.

Are some of the rides a little older? Absolutely. But we never found that to be a problem. The park felt well maintained, clean and full of things to see and do throughout the day. Whether you’re staying on Lake Garda or, like us, near Lake Iseo, we’d definitely recommend adding Gardaland to your itinerary.

Frequently Asked Questions About Gardaland

How Many Days Do You Need at Gardaland?

We spent one full day at Gardaland and never got bored. Even so, we didn’t manage to experience everything we had planned. Despite visiting during the relatively quiet autumn holiday period, there were still attractions we hadn’t managed to ride by the end of the day.

If you only have one day available, you can still experience a large part of the park. If you’re staying at Lake Garda for a longer holiday, however, a second day could definitely be worthwhile. We would probably combine it with a visit to SEA LIFE Aquarium or LEGOLAND® Water Park.

How Much Does a Visit to Gardaland Cost?

Ticket prices vary depending on the season and ticket type. Children under 90 cm (35 inches) receive free admission, and online tickets are usually cheaper than those purchased at the entrance.

Is Gardaland Suitable for Toddlers?

Absolutely. During our visit, Puck was 2 years old and had a fantastic day. Peppa Pig Land was easily her favorite area of the park. Of course, some rides have height restrictions, but there are still plenty of attractions, playgrounds and family-friendly experiences designed specifically for younger children.

What Is the Best Age for Gardaland?

That largely depends on your child, but our daughter Nina was 5 years old when we visited and was already able to enjoy a surprising number of attractions. The larger thrill rides were still out of reach, but family attractions such as Mammut, Peppa Pig Land and Fantasy Kingdom made the visit more than worthwhile.

Can You Bring Your Own Food and Drinks into Gardaland?

Yes. Visitors are allowed to bring their own food and drinks into the park. This is especially convenient when visiting with younger children and wanting to carry snacks, fruit or drinks throughout the day.

When Is the Best Time to Visit Gardaland?

We visited during the Halloween season and thought it was a fantastic time to experience the park. The themed decorations, pumpkins and seasonal shows created a fun atmosphere throughout the day. Another advantage was the relatively short waiting times. Even for the most popular attractions, we rarely waited longer than around 30 minutes.

If you’re visiting Lake Garda during spring or summer, LEGOLAND® Water Park can be a great addition to your Gardaland trip.

Why Gardaland Should Be on Your Lake Garda Itinerary

In our opinion, Gardaland is one of the best family attractions around Lake Garda. The combination of rides for different age groups, themed areas such as Peppa Pig Land and Fantasy Kingdom, and family roller coasters like Mammut means there’s something for almost everyone to enjoy.
